There are many ways to share your talents with Chicago Lights Tutoring, whether it’s through one-to-one tutoring and mentoring, teaching about a special interest, or assisting with meal time or arts and enrichment classes.

Permanent Weekly Tutor
(6:00 to 7:30 p.m.)

In this volunteer position you pick the night (Monday through Thursday) that works best for you and commit to tutoring and mentoring the same student each week on the same evening. We will match you with a student as close to your gender and grade level preferences as possible.

Substitute Tutor
(6:00 to 7:30 p.m.)

In this flexible volunteer position, you simply come to the program when you have a free evening (Monday through Thursday) and work with a student whose regular tutor was unable to attend. You can come as frequently as you wish–once a week, once a month, every two weeks, etc.

Meal-Time Volunteer
(Monday through Thursday; 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.)

–Assist in setting up, serving, and cleaning up dinner for students.
–Sit with students and be a role model during dinner to encourage appropriate behavior and positive dialogue.
–Participate, mentor, facilitate, and assist in one of the several enrichment classes (see below) that are offered after dinner.

Arts and Enrichment Teacher
(Monday through Thursday; 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.)

If you have a passion, hobby, or skill you would like to share with students once or regularly, let us know! Previous classes have focused on topics including visual arts, healthy cooking, acting, computer skills, yoga, creative writing, chess, and knitting.
