Computer Lab, Library & Art

Computer Lab

Constructed with grants from Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Chicago Lights' internet accessible lab has 16 computers and is equipped with Microsoft Office, SAT/ACT software, Typing Instructor, and other educational software.

Tutoring Library

Our Tutoring Library is open every tutoring night and functions much like a regular school or public library does. There are over a thousand books of all varieties and levels: fiction, nonfiction, reference, textbook, study guides, picture books, easy readers, chapter books, etc. that are available for students to check out to bring home and/or borrow during the tutoring evening. In addition, current issues of an assortment of magazines and the daily Chicago Tribune newspaper are housed here, as well as a plethora of academic resources, Hooked On Phonics stations, and a handful of computers. We are fortunate to have a Librarian on staff who oversees the goings-on here and assists with all student and tutor needs.

Art
Creating Art improves communication skills and offers an outlet to express feelings in a visual medium. Geared toward 1st through 6th grade students, Art is available on Wednesdays and Thursdays during the tutoring session.

Students in all grades can participate in the annual Holiday Card contest in December. Four new designs are selected each year and sold to raise much needed funds for the program. Click here to view the colorful designs and for information about purchasing Holiday Cards.

"The biggest draw for us to Chicago Lights, both as volunteers and benefactors, has been the sense of being apart of a strong community that inspires others and leads by example.

Chicago Lights has allowed both of us to share the gifts we have been so blessed with while gaining new perspective on the challenges our community faces."
