Arts Education and Meal Time

Prior to the Tutoring evening, students come to In2it Cafe, a structured, two-pronged program that offers Arts education -- via martial arts, dance, and arts and crafts -- and healthy meals.

At In2it Cafe, volunteers serve hot and healthy dinners to students at 5:30 pm prior to Tutoring and work one evening a week from 4:30--6:30 pm. Our meal time provides nearly 10,000 hot dinners to students each year!

Twice each month employees from the Levy Restaurant Group cook and serve the meal and provide an activity for our students.

Prior to the evening meal, students participate in Art, Dance or Martial Arts. As students learn and improve their skill, they also develop key life skills such as self-discipline, respect, focus, positive communication, cooperation, creativity, self-esteem, and good health. Volunteers assist the arts instructors by helping set up and facilitate the daily lesson or activity.

"I have enjoyed the interaction as well as sharing life experiences with the kids. They are great and I truly believe they're grateful and appreciative of the wonderful opportunities this program offers." Paul R., In2it Café Volunteer

"The biggest draw for us to Chicago Lights, both as volunteers and benefactors, has been the sense of being apart of a strong community that inspires others and leads by example.

Chicago Lights has allowed both of us to share the gifts we have been so blessed with while gaining new perspective on the challenges our community faces."
