One-to-One Tutoring

Personal, long-term relationships between tutors and students are the heart of the program and serve to foster skills that enhance academic performance and build self-esteem.

Student and Tutor pairs meet weekly during the school year from October - May. Students in the 1st through 6th grades attend Tutoring on Wednesday or Thursday evenings; 7th through 12th graders attend on Monday or Tuesday.

During the Tutoring evening, student/tutor pairs work on homework, school projects, literacy and math activities, and visit the computer lab, library, or art room. Beginning in January, high school student pairs also may elect to participate in the Job Training and Career Development program.

The first week of Tutoring is October 4-7, 2010!

"The biggest draw for us to Chicago Lights, both as volunteers and benefactors, has been the sense of being apart of a strong community that inspires others and leads by example.

Chicago Lights has allowed both of us to share the gifts we have been so blessed with while gaining new perspective on the challenges our community faces."
