Our Letter to Mrs. Obama

In July 2009, children at our community garden were inspired by the first lady, Michelle Obama, and wrote her a letter to tell her about their experience at the garden.

The letter begins like this:
"We are writing from the CHAMP program at the Chicago Avenue Community Garden in Chicago. CHAMP stands for Children Achieving Maximum Potential and is an outreach program....We like to come here because there is a warm feeling here and we come here to chill out and have fun...."

"The biggest draw for us to Chicago Lights, both as volunteers and benefactors, has been the sense of being apart of a strong community that inspires others and leads by example.

Chicago Lights has allowed both of us to share the gifts we have been so blessed with while gaining new perspective on the challenges our community faces."
